The Order of Sword Knights ✝️ or the Teutonic Knights?

The order was founded in Riga on the Templar rule at the beginning of the 13th century for the Christianization of Inflant. They were appointed by Bishop Riga, who concluded with the Order that 1/3 of the conquered lands were given to knights, 2/3 of the bishopric. There were tensions and wars throughout the entire period of the order, but their activities were not characterized by such success as the activities of the Teutonic Knights ✝️

In the Battle of Shawl in 1236, he was defeated by the Samogitian army, with the help of Zemgals (Semigals), under the command of Koniugas Żmudzki Czynda (Vykintas). A year after Shawel's defeat, i.e. in 1237, the Order of Sword Knights formally merged with the Teutonic Order. After the death of the last master Volquin at Saul, the new master was no longer elected. The previous one has become only a branch of the Teutonic Order and began to use the name of the Livonian Order

At the end of the 13th century and for the 14th century, they gradually conquering today's Latvia and Estonia (the latter they bought from the Danes in 1346), which ultimately led to conflicts with Lithuania

́. Polish King Zygmunt II August performed as a protector of the archbishopric of Riga and threatened the Inflanian branch of the Teutonic Order with armed intervention. In the camp near Poswol, he gathered 26,000 soldiers in September 1557 and 56 cannons of the Lithuanian army under the command of the great Lithuanian hetman Mikołaj Radziwiłł Rudy and 20,000 Polish troops commanded by Jan Mielecki.
