In the world of collecting, where coins and medals have been dominating at auctions for years, unique paper documents with great historical value are increasingly appearing. One of such unique facilities is the first Polish insurance policy from 1808, which will hit the auction of the Numismatic Salon of Mateusz Wójcicki in Wrocław on September 15. Issued by the Fire Society for cities and villages, this policy included the insurance of a wooden house and stable, and its authenticity confirms the seal and signature of the mayor of Leszno. This is not only a rare document from the beginning of the Polish insurance system, but also a certificate of socio-economic changes in nineteenth-century Poland.
Along with this policy, another valuable insurance certificate from 1858, issued by the Insurance Directorate of the Kingdom of Poland, will also appear at the auction. This document, regarding the insurance of the carriage and the sewernia, is a rare example of the development of insurance services at that time. Both of these artifacts, with an estimated value from 7,000 to 15,000 PLN, attract the attention of collectors and history lovers, offering a unique opportunity to have a fragment of the Polish insurance heritage.
