In the heart of Krakow, numismatists and history buffs gathered to have their collections professionally appraised. On August 14th, the event, held at the hotel on Straszewskiego Street, attracted nearly a hundred people – both residents of Małopolska and collectors from further afield.
Coins and banknotes worth several hundred thousand złoty were delivered to the experts, and the waiting list for consultations sometimes lasted almost an hour. Among the items collected were gold coins brought by highlanders from Zakopane and unique Czech banknotes from the Subcarpathian region.
The real star of the meeting, however, turned out to be the 17th-century "Peace in Oliwa" Medal – a rare and perfectly preserved specimen, whose value was estimated by experts at up to 100,000 zlotys.
